When I started looking for answers to my questions about
being able to fix my old vinyl windows, I was told repeatedly that it would be
more cost-efficient to replace my windows. It seems like that like many other
products windows have been improved a lot since my old vinyl windows were made
and installed.
While I was checking into the benefits of energy efficient
windows as an option, I found that the cost would be approximately the same if
I fix my old windows. However, the replacement windows would make my life a lot
easier. Some of the benefits included:
·
Double hung windows for easy cleaning: The double hung windows allowed me to fold
them down and in for easy cleaning of the inside and outside of the windows.
With my old windows I had to lug a ladder around the outside of my house and
then balance my cleaning tools while I climbed up and down. This was frustrating,
tiring, and dangerous. As a result my windows were probably not kept as clean
as I would have liked.
·
Less drafts and leaks: If I replace, instead of fix my old vinyl
windows, I can get better insulation in both the window itself and around the
frame when it is installed. My old windows often let in cold drafts in the
winter. New energy efficient window mean no cold air leaking in around the
windows in the winter and the heat from my home is not leaking outside either.
This should reduce my heating costs and make my home more comfortable
throughout the year.
·
Variety of styles and sizes: I was amazed at the variety of sizes and
styles that I could choose from. I was afraid that the windows I could afford
would be just a basic, plain window. To my surprise I found that there was a
wide range of windows to pick from. Although in some cases it would raise the
cost if the window opening had to be enlarged. The installers I spoke with were
very honest and told me that they would have to come to my home for
measurements before they could offer a detailed estimate.
After doing my research, I decided that the option to fix my old vinyl windows just wasn’t the right way to go. Even if I have to do a few
windows at a time, I think that the energy efficient windows are the right
choice for my Greensboro home. I decided to go with the professionals at Triad Installations. This energy-efficient roof installer took the time to come to my
home and offered a free estimate for fixing my old vinyl windows.
